Project Description
Dr. Patricia A. Shaw has dedicated her career to the reclamation, revitalization and documentation of Indigenous languages. To celebrate her career, in the true spirit of generosity, Dr. Shaw hopes to create a fund that will support students at UBC in continuing this crucial work. Your donation can help to empower students, particularly those from First Nations communities, to preserve and revitalize their traditional languages.
Challenges and Impact of Your Support
Your gift today not only pays tribute to Dr. Shaw’s invaluable contributions to UBC and the Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies but also provides vital support for students engaged in language revitalization efforts. Your contribution will help to fund student work that is essential for preserving critically endangered First Nations languages.
About Dr. Patricia A. Shaw
Dr. Shaw, Founding Chair of the First Nations and Endangered Languages Program, has spent decades collaborating with Indigenous communities and international organizations to support language reclamation efforts. Her partnership with the Musqueam community has been particularly impactful, leading to the development of the UBC-Musqueam collaborative teaching and research relationship.
