The Pie’s the Limit! The UBC Thunderbird Sports Club (TSC) Sailing Team is a dedicated sailing team that represents UBC in sailing competitions across Canada and the United States.
Join us in our mission to sail to victory! We’re raising $1,000 to offset travel costs for our upcoming regattas and prepare for nationals. Limited funds restrict our competition choices, hindering our progress. Despite still recovering from the pandemic last year, we competed and placed 5th in fleet nationals in Montreal, and hosted match racing nationals here in Vancouver at the West Vancouver Yacht Club. With your help, we hope to improve and bring back gold for UBC!
Your contribution to “The Pie’s the Limit” fundraiser can make a significant difference. Each competition we are able to attend prior to nationals provides invaluable experience for our team, and will hopefully help us to improve our standings from last year.

Challenges and Impact of Your Support
Our team’s primary challenge is the cost of traveling for competitions. To qualify for nationals, we must travel, compete, and perform well in specific regattas and most regattas for the Canadian and American sailing circuits are held outside of B.C. While we train a few days a week, the most effective way to improve is through competition. Each location offers unique wind, tide, and wave patterns, crucial for refining strategies and gaining experience. Vancouver’s predictable bays can only teach us so much; we need exposure to diverse conditions.
The impact of your support will allow us to compete in more diverse conditions, and gain more valuable experience that will aid us in our quest to place at nationals. Last year at fleet nationals, we finished 5th! With your support the sky is the limit to what we can achieve.

About the UBC TSC Sailing Team
Our team is a dynamic blend of 20 talented and passionate graduate and undergraduate students at UBC, hailing from all corners of the globe. From Victoria to Stockholm, we’re a diverse group of sailors representing UBC in two prestigious intercollegiate sailing circuits: CICSA (Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association) and ICSA (Intercollegiate Sailing Association) in Canada and the United States, respectively.
We primarily sail in dinghies: nimble small boats designed for two crew members. Specifically, we sail in boats known as 420s and FJs. However, we also occasionally take on the challenge of competing with keelboats, slightly larger boats that can crew 4 people.
