Healthier Students, Brighter Futures: Help UBC Dentistry students thrive!
University can be challenging, and students are sometimes left wondering how to access the resources they need to stay focused and resilient. Help the next generation of oral healthcare professionals and show them how much you care about their wellbeing by giving to the UBC Dentistry 60th Anniversary Student Wellness Fund!
Project Description
Dental school is demanding, and so is a career in healthcare. It’s critical that students prioritize their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, and develop the skills needed to set them up for success both in school and in their professional lives. The UBC Dentistry 60th Anniversary Student Wellness Fund was created to empower dental students to be at their best today, and advance oral healthcare for all in the future.
The Impact of Your Support
UBC Dentistry students need you! Your generosity will directly support students by giving them access to opportunities that support their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. You will also help them tackle real-time issues such as food accessibility, convenient access to fitness spaces, as well as quiet spaces for studying, reflection and spiritual connection.
The fund is available to students in all dentistry programs, including dental hygiene, doctor of dental medicine and graduate studies.
You can double your impact! When you give by December 1st, your funds will be matched by Madaisky Pollock LLP and Broadreach Strategic Planning Inc. up to $50,000! Join them today and double your dollar—it’s quick and easy to give!
About UBC Dentistry and the Student Wellness Fund
Students are at the heart of what we do at UBC Dentistry and supporting them to thrive is a top priority. That’s why we’re celebrating our 60th anniversary by establishing the Dentistry Student Wellness Fund! The fund is managed by the Faculty’s in-house counselling program and is guided by an advisory committee comprised of students, faculty and staff.
“It’s hard for students to focus on physical and emotional wellbeing because we get bogged down with studying, but I know that I need to take care of myself and balance wellness to be the best healthcare provider for my future patients.” -Committee member Alice Wang (BDSc 2026 candidate)
“As healthcare practitioners, we have received extensive training in advising patients to maintain their health and wellness, but for various reasons, we often forget to follow that advice ourselves. We can’t expect to provide excellent patient care if we aren’t mentally and physically healthy in our own lives.” -Committee member Dr. Ethan Struthers-Lavoie (MSc Diploma Periodontics Year 3)
“In my first year of dental school, I was focused on getting exceptional grades, but I was doing that at the expense of my own health. Wellbeing should be a top priority, and I hope this fund will help students realize how important it is to look after their own health.” -Committee member Monique Nijjer (DMD 2026 candidate)
“I would say thank you to donors who give to the Student Wellness Fund—you are truly making a difference in the lives of students! Seeing people give back to UBC inspires students like me to donate in the future. The Student Wellness Fund allows us to prioritize students’ needs beyond academia and enables us to feel heard. You are having a real impact!” -Committee member Elle Santomin (BDSc 2025 candidate)
