World University Rugby Tournament

The UBC Men’s Varsity Rugby Team is headed to Waseda University in Japan to play against the top university rugby teams in the world before the Rugby World Cup. Help them continue to grow their legacy of success on and off the field!

Story Description

The UBC Men’s Varsity Rugby Program is traveling to Waseda University in Japan to play against the top university rugby teams in the world before the Rugby World Cup. This will be the second time the men’s rugby program has competed in this tournament, previously finishing with a 3rd overall University World Ranking after beating Oxford RUFC in Oxford. We are looking toward bettering our ranking this time around while continuing to grow our legacy of success on and off the field.

Challenges & Impact of Your Support

By supporting this fundraising campaign you are helping reduce the cost per player and to the program as a whole. With the daily training environment UBC Men’s Rugby offers, these athletes work tirelessly to maintain not only their academic standing but their place within Canadian university sport. Tournaments such as these are the perfect arena for these athletes to put all of their hard work on display and you can be a part of that success.

About

This tournament has been organized by a dedicated group of World University coaches, administrators and volunteers and, closer to home, the UBC Rugby Board, UBC Athletics and Recreation and our tireless staff within the UBC Men’s Rugby Program.

UBC Rugby has a 100-year tradition of rugby excellence at UBC, with strong alumni and University support. The UBC Rugby Program believes in continuing the tradition of developing balanced student-athletes who demonstrate a range of dynamic abilities on and off the field; by doing so we advance our program goal of becoming the best rugby development program in North America.
