Germany Bound: Elevating UBC Women’s Basketball

Project Description
High-level pre-season competition is essential to the continued growth and success of UBC Women’s Basketball. This summer, we have an exciting opportunity to travel to Germany for a pre-season tour—and we need your support to make it happen.
Competing against professional German clubs will raise our level of play, sharpen our athletes’ skills, and prepare us for a strong U SPORTS season. For those with aspirations of playing professionally, this international experience offers invaluable exposure, connections, and a firsthand look at the demands of competing overseas. Beyond the court, it will broaden our players’ global perspectives while deepening team unity, leadership, and culture—the building blocks of a championship-caliber program.
This tour holds special significance, as one of our own, Mona Berlitz, will proudly welcome us into her hometown’s basketball community and culture. Now entering her fourth year with us, Mona will have the unforgettable opportunity to play in front of her family and friends on home soil. As an Assistant Coach, I’ll also be returning to familiar ground, having spent five years playing professionally in Europe, including three seasons in Germany. We’re excited to compete against both Mona’s and my former club teams.

Challenges and Impact of Your Support
Traveling to Germany to face elite European basketball clubs is an incredible opportunity, that also requires significant financial resources. Every contribution helps bring this experience to life and directly supports our athletes’ growth on and off the court. Competing overseas will elevate our team development—building confidence, chemistry and a global perspective. This is an experience that will impact our student-athletes far beyond the court. We’re deeply grateful for your support in making this exciting opportunity possible.
About the UBC Women’s Basketball Team
UBC Women’s Basketball has a rich legacy of athletic and academic excellence, reflected in the program’s impressive records, including six National titles and eight Canada West Conference championships. Off the court, our student-athletes consistently excel in the classroom, achieving Academic All-Canadian honors annually—the 2023/2024 season saw 11 of our players earn this status. Our alumni continue to make their mark by representing Canada in international competitions, assuming leadership roles across various industries and making meaningful contributions to their communities. Many have also pursued professional basketball careers overseas, demonstrating the far-reaching impact of our program.
