Help Us Mech-Over Our Clubroom!
Club Mech is embarking on an exciting project to refresh our aging clubroom and transform it into a welcoming, functional, and accessible space for all mechanical engineering students.
Club Mech is the heart of mechanical engineering at UBC, supporting over 500 students with academic, social and professional events. But our aging clubroom needs a major upgrade! We’re on a mission to transform it into a modern, accessible and inspiring space where students can collaborate, study and unwind. With your help, we can refresh the kitchenette, add new furniture and create work areas perfect for both solo focus and group projects.
Let’s build a space that’s as innovative as the students who use it. Please donate today and help us engineer a brighter future for Club Mech!
Project Description
Club Mech is the undergraduate student society for mechanical engineering at UBC. We support over 500 students through academic, social and professional events. Whether it’s securing study spaces, hosting socials, or organizing industry nights to connect students with future opportunities, we’re here to help students shift gears toward success.
This year, we’re tackling an ambitious goal: upgrading and renovating our clubroom. It’s the nuts and bolts of our community—a space where students come to collaborate, relax and work. But after years of wear and tear, it’s time for a full refresh to make it accessible, welcoming and functional.
Our plan? We’re redesigning the space into three distinct areas:
- Social Space: A comfortable area with wall-mounted TV, bench seating and curtains for projector use
- Workspace: Hot-desk stations, group study tables, whiteboards for collaboration and upgraded lockers
- Kitchenette/Dining: Accessible features including pull-out counters, instant hot tap, double sink and durable storage cabinets
For a detailed look at our renovation plans, including floor layouts and specific upgrades for each area, check out our complete project proposal.
Our total renovation budget is $60,000, and this crowdfunding campaign is a key step toward that goal, aiming to raise $25,000. To make your donation go even further, the first $5,000 in gifts will be matched by alumni, Jen and Dave Pelletier, doubling your impact and helping us reach our goal faster!
With your support, we can bring this vision to life and create a space where mechanical engineering students can thrive—offering them a dedicated place to collaborate, focus and build a stronger community.
Challenges and Impact of Your Support
Your donation directly funds Club Mech and our clubroom refresh, with funds managed by elected student leaders.
Every contribution, big or small, helps us create a space that’s not just functional but inspiring—a place where students can connect, collaborate and create lasting memories.
If you’d like to maximize your impact, you can donate directly by cheque (payable to UBC, memo: Club Mech) and send it to: UBC Annual Giving, 500-5950 University Blvd, Vancouver, V6T 1Z3.
About Club Mech
This renovation project is spearheaded by Club Mech President, Emilie Ho, a dedicated mechanical engineering student in her sixth (and final!) year of studies. She been integral to Club Mech since MECH 2 and is committed to leaving a lasting positive impact for future students.
She is supported by the Club Mech executive team, a passionate group of students from all years. From first-year reps to final-year co-op veterans, our club members work hard to balance event planning, fundraising, and leading design teams—all while supporting our fellow mechanical engineering students.
With your help, we can turn our clubroom into a space that truly reflects the creativity, collaboration, and spirit of mechanical engineering at UBC!
