Help Us Repair the ECE Pool Table
The ECE pool table and foosball table are well used, worn, and in dire need of repair, and we need your support.
Story Description
Our pool table and foosball table have always been our most popular features of the lounge, seeing many hours of play each day. They have played a tremendous role in increasing community involvement by bringing people to the lounge to enjoy the table after a stressful workload and long lab hours. They not only attract electrical and computer engineering students but also students from computer science, mechanical engineering, and other departments to stop by, have fun, and socialize.
With wear and tear from continuous usage, the ECESS is constantly fixing pool cues, purchasing tips, and chalk. All of the bumpers along the perimeter of the playing surface have come loose resulting in a subpar billiards experience. Then finally, over this summer, the pool table was unfortunately damaged during a building maintenance operation. It breaks our heart to see students disappointed or just simply turning away day after day by the cornerstone of ECE entertainment in MacLeod. With three years since the pool table was resurfaced, we figure the table is overdue a well-deserved maintenance and repair. We have gotten a quote of $1200 to repair the bumpers, purchase new cues, and resurface the table. It’s expensive, because quality has a cost, and we believe the amount of enjoyment our students gain from is worth that cost.
Challenges & Impact of Your Support
In a previous year, the department has generously assisted us with funding for a new table. Unfortunately, the pool table repair fund has been exhausted as we have not anticipated this serious level of damage and high cost of repair. A proposed plan to restructure our expenditure for this repair could negatively affect our other events and services for UBC student. This is why we decided to reach out to the UBC community to help us repair this pool table.
The money you donated will be going toward the following:
- All new edge bumpers – $500
- Brand new surface – $450
- New pool cues – $250
- Foosball table repair – $100
Any additional funding will be put into the repair fund for future maintenance of these pieces of equipment. As an added bonus, we would like to offer the choice of the new pool table surface to the highest donor. Your generous donation will improve the experience of everyone in the ECE community.
