From EDN to Baja Oregon 2026: Your Support, Our Success!
Your support brings UBC Baja back to the Baja SAE circuit, giving passionate engineering students the chance to compete and represent UBC on the world stage.
Project Description
Six years ago, UBC Baja last competed on the international stage. A lot has changed since then, but the drive to compete never disappeared.
This May, we’re heading back. Our team is bringing Mochi, our newest student-built, single-seat off-road vehicle, to the Baja SAE Oregon 2026 Competition in Washougal, Washington.
Baja SAE is one of the most demanding collegiate engineering competitions in the world. Student teams design, build and race custom off-road vehicles against more than 100 universities, facing rigorous design reviews, technical inspections and a punishing multi-day endurance race.
Since the 2024 season, our team has poured months into designing, building and testing Mochi to be ready for exactly that. Now we need your help to get there.
Challenges and Impact of Your Support
Building a competition-ready vehicle is only half the battle. Getting our car, tools and team from Vancouver, BC to Washougal, WA by May 7 is the other, and that’s where your support makes the difference.
Here’s what we need to get there:
- Vehicle transport: getting Mochi safely to and from the competition site
- Travel and accommodation: flights, lodging and ground transport for our team members
- Competition registration: the fees required to officially enter the Baja SAE Oregon event
- Tools and on-site maintenance: keeping Mochi in peak condition throughout the multi-day competition
We’ve put in the hours. We’ve built something we’re proud of. What we need now is the support to show up and compete. Every contribution gets us closer to that start line.
For many of our members, Baja SAE is the moment where classroom learning becomes real engineering.
After six years away, we’re almost there. Help us finish the journey.
About UBC Baja
Founded in 2011, UBC Baja is a student-run engineering design team that designs, builds and races off-road vehicles for the international SAE Baja competition. This return to competition is the culmination of years of rebuilding, with new members learning from those before them, new designs pushing past what previous cars achieved and a renewed commitment to competing at the highest level.
Our team draws from over ten departments and disciplines, gaining hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, teamwork and real-world problem-solving, from welding chassis components to optimizing drivetrain performance to fine-tuning suspension geometry.
Driven by a passion for engineering and motorsports, UBC Baja is back and ready to show what UBC students can achieve.
